Jacket

After discovering my design passion and curiousity for soft goods and textiles I needed to apply the design skills I had learned from previous works such as form, composition, materiality, and crafting methods. As an exploration and application of this previous industrial design knowledge, I created my first up-cycle project by deconstructing three thrifted sports jackets, and blending them together into one. This helped me gain an understanding of garment construction, sewing techniques, material choice, and the importance of being detail oriented. This was my first attempt at creating a wearable garment. I mainly re-used the materials from the original jackets, but i also added some wool panels around the pockets that I hand-felted. The presentation includes more information on the design process.

Handbag

This bag was crafted using a mixture of up-cycled and new materials. The main body of the bag was created using raw canvas for durability and a natural feel. The outer faces of the bag were made with mix of purchased materials and recycled nylon from a golf jacket. This piece was a commission to replace a handbag that had been ruined with tea, so I incorporated some drink sleeves on the inside to keep containers up-right when in use.
