Doré
This body of work is the result of numerous experiments in natural dye techniques. Normally, natural dyes are used for full immersion baths with different wrapping, tying and over-dyeing methods but I wanted to see what would be possible with a different approach. So I created natural dye concentrates, and applied these directly to the garments with a paintbrush. This act not only felt more organic and expressive, but it also allowed for some unique compositions that couldn't be achieved any other way. I really wanted to hone in on the idea of "wearable artworks" as my ethos for these garments. Finding something unique, that makes us feel special as people is often hard in our hyper-consumer oriented society. We often subconsciously lose our love for a clothing item if we see someone else wearing the same thing, so I wanted to see if there was a better way. Doré is a collection of entirely hand-painted shirts, that, although they speak to each other, are entirely unique. This collection also continues my dedication to entirely biodegradable garments, as these are truly 100% natural. Cotton fabric, cotton thread and natural dyes will all return to the earth safely once their life-cycle ends.
